One Sudan or two?

I am in the town of Yambio in Western Equatoria. Its in southern Sudan, situated on the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Thousands of brightly dressed people are dancing in traditional costumes, going round and round and round ... singing "cpa cpa".

Cpa is the peace agreement that was signed between north and south Sudan some 5 years ago and gave southerners hope for their own country.

Next year, southerners will vote in a referendum. Ask anyone "one Sudan or two Sudans" and the answer is "two, two, two".

What no one seems to know is that, under the peace agreement, south Sudan does not have the right to declare independence unilateraly.

Even if they vote for two Sudans, a formula has to be reached in agreement with Khartoum ... and first they have to agree on many other crucial issues like oil revenues, currency and borders.
