Scanning the Atlantic site the other day, I came across an article under the “Dispatches” section that stopped my web surfing in its tracks. It’s a short piece by Atlantic staff editor Graeme Wood under a subhead title of “How a Lebanese Mullah Found Happiness in Paraguay.”

The article does what almost any other piece of journalism about Muslims in South America does: It mentions the so called “Triple Frontier” area where Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina meet, and where a lot of Muslims live.
After 9/11, the U.S. government openly voiced concern that the area was being used as a safe haven for terrorists. Many mainstream media organizations repeated these claims, but also correctly pointed out that the total number of terrorist plots stemming from Muslims (or Catholics or Jews, for that matter) in the Triple Frontier is zero. None. Zilch. Or should I just say nada.
