A bad sign for the empire

For some years it has been fashionable to compare the US to ancient Rome.

Much of the conversation considers how the US has taken on the distinguishing characteristics of empire, highlighting social and cultural decadence or economic issues.

It has even become an element of the educational curriculum.

Some like to argue that a US empire is a good thing for the world, while others point out that empires inevitably come to an end.

Even if the US empire is in decline, it's pretty safe to assume that collapse won't happen tomorrow. But one thing does seem certain: the empire won't be getting any stronger while this trend continues:

A report by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities indicates that the US is one of only two nations on Earth in which people aged 25 to 34 have lower educational attainment than their parents.
