Activists say the body of Ghiath Matar, a 26-year-old who'd been instrumental in organising protests in the Damascus suburb of Daraya, was returned to his family today.

He was reportedly arrested on September 6, and activists say he died of torture while in detention.

In video posted online, purportedly showing Matar, bruises on the chest were clearly visible.
