A mistrial has been announced for the Egyptian blogger Maikel Nabil, his brother told our correspondent.
Nabil's brother came out from the military court and spoke with Al Jazeera's Sherine Tadros about today's ruling. Tadros reports:
The judge has essentially decided to declare that verdict that they had given Maikel Nabil back in April, giving him a 3 year sentence, null and void.
In two days' time, the case will be transferred from the military trial to the military prosecutor and he, [the prosecutor], will then decide on another day with which to start this military trial for Maikel Nabil.
This is an appeals case so it wasn't going to look into whether Nabil was guilty or not guilty. It simply looked into procedural issues behind the case itself, for the problems found with the procedure during the initial trial. That is why a retrial is being called.
The brother of Maikel Nabil is very upset. He mentioned that Maikel has been on a hunger strike for almost 50 days. They are very concerned about his health and as far as we understand, he won't be let out in the interim period until another trial is called.
He will actually stay incarcerated, which means that he will stay on his hunger strike.
