If not Mossad then who?

Anyone who still thinks Mossad WASN'T responsible for the murky murder mystery playing out in Dubai must be feeling decidedly lonely right now.

Sure the Israeli media still find it hard to believe that Mossad could be "so irresponsible as to dispatch nearly 30 agents and to expose an entire select operational unit on one assassination operation".

But the latest revelations from Dubai Police are pretty hard to ignore. They've now found 22 fraudulent passport-holders loitering around the Al-Bustan Rotana Hotel on the day Hamas commander Mahmoud al-Mabouh was murdered. (They claim the other 4 suspects were only involved in the planning and preparation.)

Many of the new passports also belong to foreigners living in Israel, whose identities don't match the photos presented in Dubai.

So if this isn't Mossad then who could it be? An organisation desperate to discreetly kill a Hamas member and make it look like Israel's work?

An under-reported fact of this story is that al-Mabouh's murder was oh-so-close to being ruled as "natural causes".

It took 10 days for foul play to be determined and the coroner told local press that determining the exact cause was "one of the most challenging cases" he'd ever faced. (We're still waiting for the final official autopsy results.)

Police sources tell me heart medication was also planted beside al-Mabouh's bed to lead investigators down the wrong path.

If it had been ruled a heart attack then Dubai Police would have had no reason to trawl through 1,000's of hours of surveillance footage.

So who else would want to kill al-Mabouh and make sure that nobody ever discovered he was murdered? If there was a criminal element involved then surely a revolver with a silencer attached would suffice.

If we are to believe that Mossad is being framed here then who would have the money, manpower and motivation to do such a convincing job?

If the Israeli media start suggesting the fictional James Bond villain Ernst Blofeld then we really know they've lost the plot.
